The advantages of going car-free especially in a city like Lagos are limitless. Car-free days are a huge opportunity for cities to evaluate how much pollution affects our lives, and ponder the solutions that could help preserve our planet while enhancing our daily lives.

According to the World Health Organization, air pollution is responsible for at least 7 million deaths yearly in big cities. It also cites that emissions from road traffic account for a significant ratio of mortality as well as other respiratory and cardiovascular disease, and also the largest contributor to climate change. You only need to calculate the emission you release daily to understand the amount of damage being done.

International Car-Free Day also presents a rare opportunity to highlight how congested our roads are and how our cities might look like, feel like, and sound like with such reduced congestion. At MAX, it offers an opportunity to showcase its MAXev service, aimed at providing electric vehicles, and a mission to pioneer and develop a more socially responsible transport service to Nigerians, and Africans at large.

In reducing carbon emission and congestion on our roads, we as a society should open up to better and safe ways to commute like ride-sharing/carpooling, motorcycle hailing and public transit. Imagine a city where about 1000 people are using MAXOkada’s to commute daily, that’s 1000 cars off the road. This is actually significant given today’s traffic situation.

Despite the government’s efforts to subsidize the costs, citizens have to pay up to 15–30 percent of their incomes on transport. This is where EVs come in. Electric Vehicles not only address issues like energy conservation, global warming, and environmental accountability, they are also more economical.

In celebrating Car-Free Day 2019, MAX.Ng is taking giant strides into the EV Market. With stylish and low maintenance designs currently being assembled, MAXev is set to hit the streets of Lagos soon. In line with our mission to make moto-taxis safe, affordable and accessible across West Africa, MAXOKADA is continuously evolving to ensure we are delivering the best service in its class.

What do you think an all-Electric transportation system will look like in Nigeria?
