Sierra Leone–

Power Leone, Energicity Corp subsidiary in Sierra Leone, is excited to announce the recent launch of its electric mobility productive use program with e-bikes proving up to the task of sustainably serving customer demand in Power Leone’s minigrid-powered rural communities where motorbikes are the main mode of public transportation.

Energicity’s commercial e-bike program was first launched in May 2024, with e-bikes deployed and powered by Power Leone’s solar powered minigrids. With these e-bikes, customers can travel more cleanly and affordably. Energicity’s Emobility program leverages MAX’s M3 bikes that have been tailored to suit west African terrain. At scale, Energicity expects to serve over 1000 customers at scale over its existing portfolio of minigrids and counting across its markets in West Africa.

Energicity is one of the pioneers in bringing electric mobility to rural communities. With its extensive network of minigrids, including the biggest in Sierra Leone, Energicity is able to tap into the unserved demand for more sustainable transportation in areas that would typically be constrained by the lack of electricity infrastructure.

“We’re bringing cutting edge technologies to our Energicity’s rural African customer base who are at times overlooked for the latest technologies. This e-mobility program would not be possible without our investments in our economic growth catalyzing energy infrastructure or as important our investments in understanding our customers needsWe are thrilled that our customer-centric approach continues to pay dividends and reinforce our commitment to seek commercial solutions that enable our communities to thrive,” says Nicole Poindexter, Founder and CEO of Energicity and Power Leone.

MAX is glad to collaborate with Power Leone and Energicity to accelerate our mission of using e-bikes to drive sustainable growth and development across Africa. We are excited about the performance of the M3 — our most technologically advanced electric two-wheeler (made specifically for the African terrain) in Sierra Leone, and we look forward to ramping up deployment in the coming months,” says Adetayo Bamiduro, CEO and Co-founder of Nigeria-based MAX.

Power Leone has the largest operational portfolio of solar mini grids in Sierra Leone, providing electricity to 100,000 people beyond the reach of the main grid. It is a subsidiary of Energicity Corp, a distributed energy utility company operating across West Africa. Energicity’s energy services and financing platform deliver results to our customers ranging from cell towers, to shopkeepers, to students and families. Our 70 mini grids in Sierra Leone (Power Leone) and in Benin (Weziza Benin) provide life transforming and wealth creating benefits through access to sustainably-powered electricity.

MAX stands at the forefront of innovative solutions, by democratizing access to vehicle ownership and electric mobility across Africa. Through its pioneering tech-driven platform, it offers a spectrum of services, including subscription-based vehicle financing, cutting-edge electric vehicle options, and comprehensive support services.
