Sometimes, figuring what we might need in our bag every day can be somewhat challenging. For some people, you might end up carrying a heavy bag full of many non-essentials and miss out on taking the really important things.

Carrying the right items in your bag can help you save time, money and be more productive. Since some of our daily activities can be unpredictable, here are seven essentials that should be in the bag before you leave home to help you have an organized day:

* Wallet/Purse: Most people unconsciously reach for their wallets before they leave the house but the contents of the wallet are perhaps more important than the wallet itself. Your wallet or purse should contain your ID cards, ATM cards, extra cash (in case of emergencies), a passport photograph and important business cards.

* Phone Charger: Few things are as annoying as knowing your phone battery is dying while you are out without a charger. To avoid this, fold your charger neatly into your bag before leaving the house. This way, you can charge your phone wherever you find yourself. If you have a portable power bank with you, that’s even better!

* Keys: This seems like an obvious one but how many times have you carelessly flung your keys into your bag on your way out only to hurriedly search for it when you need it? It is best to put all your keys (car, house, safe) onto one key ring and have a safe designated spot in your bag for it.

* Pen & Notebook: You know that person at the bank who always asks for a pen and never returns it? Don’t be that person! Always put a small notebook and a pen in your bag before leaving the house. You never know when and where you may need to write out something urgently, or simply sketch out a plan or to-do list.

* Earphone: Whether you are jamming to your favourite songs or simply trying to avoid unwanted conversations, the earphone is a very good essential to have in your bag. It also stops you from being that person that plays videos or music out loud in public spaces.

* Water Bottle: This will keep you from getting dehydrated during the day. Fill up a water bottle and place one in your bag before leaving the house.

* Hand Sanitizer/Face Mask: In keeping with COVID-19 regulations, carry a hand sanitizer and face mask along with you every day for use. Hand sanitizers should not replace washing your hands but they are handy to have when there are no hand-washing facilities nearby.
