Anytime Google Maps is mentioned, what comes to mind is that it’s simply a navigation tool.

Google Maps has become an integral part of many people’s lives. The app is packed with features that make it so much more than a Global Positioning System (GPS) tool.

There are many time-saving features and helpful ways to explore the app. You might want to know these features and how to explore them:

* Save your home and work addresses: You can save your work and home addresses in Google Maps. This makes it easier to navigate to either location.

* Search for restaurants nearby: If you are driving and don’t know the nearest place to eat, Google Maps can help.

* Select your route: Google Maps by default will show you the fastest route available. If you want to select a different route for any reason, that’s an option.

* Share location with family and friends: As a safety precaution, it’s always smart to share where you’re going and how you’re getting there with a friend or relative. Google Maps makes this simple for you with its ‘share directions’ option.

* Save favourite locations: One great feature of Google Maps is being able to save favourite locations. This will help speed up the process when you are looking for a specific place.

* Offline usage: In a situation where there is no internet connection at your destination, Google Maps allows you to download directions before your trip and use the navigation once the internet goes down.

* Pre-select pit-stops for longer trips: If you are heading out on a long road trip, you are probably going to make a few stops. Google Maps has the option of adding these to your trip ahead of time.

* Go hands-free: The app has a full array of helpful voice commands that you can take advantage of while trying to navigate your way without using your hands.

* Traffic alerts: In addition to the usual distance and time, Google Maps will tell you which is the best route based on current traffic conditions. It also takes into account anticipated traffic conditions.

* Remember where you parked your car: The next time you park your car, open Google Maps and tap on the blue dot that shows your location. When a menu pops up, select “Set as parking location” so you can easily find your car when you’re ready to leave.

* See what a place looks like before you go: Pictures can be deceiving, so before you book a hotel that looks nice, check it out on Google Maps first.
