A morning routine is a set of activities that prepares one for the day. It could be mental, spiritual, physical or a mix of all three.

In this article, we explore some ways you can develop a healthy morning routine.

1. EVENING ROUTINES: As odd as it might sound, the perfect healthy morning routine begins the day before. Yes! A day before. Probably the most important thing to consider, the first box that must be ticked when planning your healthy morning routine is to plan a proper evening routine. The perfect evening routine involves eating a healthy diet at the right time, sleeping early, and organising particularly for the next day. You shouldn’t begin to pound yam at 9 pm and say you want to have a healthy morning routine.

2. EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE: It not only helps to sleep early, getting the recommended amount of sleep helps you wake up refreshed, more or less putting your right foot forward at the start of the day.

3. ACCOMPLISH TASKS: Accomplishing small tasks from when you rise is good practice that sets the tone for the rest of your day.

4. GO HEALTHY: When you wake up in the morning and pee, have you noticed that the colour of your urine is a little bit different compared to the urine of other times? If you’ve noticed, well done. If you haven’t noticed, take note and observe. You should pay more attention to your body. The reason why your urine has a different colour is that your kidneys have done their job and your body is already dehydrated. In this case, what you need to do is to rehydrate your body. Some people drink water while others opt for tea or coffee. The choice is completely yours and you should pick the one that suits you well. However, water is a healthier option. After getting hydrated, the next thing to do is exercise. Staying fit shouldn’t be a problem and a few stretches and squats wouldn’t hurt. You could also do yoga if you’re the type but the main goal is to get blood to circulate your body well.

5: STAY OFF SOCIAL MEDIA: If you agree with me, social media kills time. Once you pick up your phone to check out that notification, you wouldn’t know how you went from spending one minute liking posts to hours giggling and sharing posts. One rule to follow while planning your morning routine is to never check social media; not even for a second. Listen to the morning news, audiobook or better still read a book. You could also write a journal. Just don’t open that social media app.

6. START SLOW: Of course, you can not just wake up one morning and begin a continuous morning routine. It takes time to develop the perfect morning routine. You don’t just develop a habit overnight so you should start small and track your progress until you finally perfect the morning routine.

7: PERFECT THE HABIT: At this point, you’re already familiar with the routine. What is left is that you don’t fall by the roadside and abandon the routine. We’ve completed the hard parts and what’s left here is just to continue doing what you’ve always been doing.
