The world around us has changed quite a bit in the past 3 or 4 years, a lot of it for the better. In business specifically, we’ve responded in several ways; many professional and administrative workers have learned how to work remotely from home, reducing commuting times.

Simultaneously, we’ve gravitated to online commerce and delivery services for a greater variety of goods and services that would otherwise have needed travel (mainly automobile trips) to our homes.

Our newfound comfort and zeal for apps for shopping, meetings, productivity, and other purposes have resulted in permanent reductions in the amount of time we spend driving, and this makes shared mobility a more attractive prospect for transport.

However, there has been speculation around whether or not shared mobility and fewer vehicles on our roads is indeed a positive direction to head towards. The short answer is yes, nevertheless, let’s look at a few benefits of driving less and sharing more.

An Increase in personal resources:

Resources that were previously required for utilities such as repairs/maintenance and gasoline may now be better appropriated, raising our standard of living. As an added plus, having fewer autos in the house allows for more space to be used for other projects such as home offices, workshops, and studios rather than a garage.

Fewer road infrastructure:

There is less need for automotive infrastructure when there are fewer automobiles on the road. Given that the most traditional reason for road development and extension is that we travel more and more each year. If car ownership and traffic jams are decreasing, we would need to build fewer roads than we would otherwise.

A rise in property values:

Property values and attractiveness grow in areas with widespread usage of shared transportation. Fewer people feel compelled to buy a car and those who do restrict the number of vehicles they buy.

Decongested parkways typically attract prospective property buyers who are searching for a pleasant location to live in with the flexibility of a spacious environment. This situation has the potential to raise the value of individual properties in the neighbourhood.

Better available choices:

The mobility industry is also encouraged to compete, which has the potential to significantly expand economic potential and activity. As suppliers seek to outperform one another, innovation and hospitality will flourish. As a result, the town or city has a thriving industry and economic growth.

Reduced air pollution:

Decreasing the distance travelled by vehicles is the most reliable, cost-effective, and ecologically friendly strategy to minimize traffic congestion and emissions. As recent experience has shown, lower levels of traffic have resulted in more efficient motorways, in some cases moving more vehicles at peak hours faster than when motorways are allowed to become overloaded by excess demand.

Reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions benefit the economy as well, especially when it becomes economically advantageous to develop solutions that help safeguard our world, combat climate change, and are centred on renewable energy.

Reduced greenhouse gas emissions reduce the pace of temperature rise, sea-level rise, glacier melt, and ocean acidification. It also reduces the adaptive strain exerted on plants and animals by slowing the consequences of climate change.

The greatest advantage to society as a whole is that by lowering the number of automobiles on the road and the number of contaminants in the atmosphere, the quality of the air will improve, reducing health problems, particularly respiratory diseases, in large cities.

Overcrowding, air pollution, and CO2 emissions in large cities are among the most important concerns we face today, especially as the population continues to grow. As a result, it is critical to foster a culture shift toward transportation alternatives such as shared mobility that improve air quality and reduce carbon footprints.

MAX continues to get involved in enhancing shared mobility by empowering commercial independent local drivers with vehicles, resources and skills needed to serve large numbers of commuters every day. This is done while striving to make all kinds of transportation accessible while also advocating for a shift toward more ecologically friendly ways of mobility.
