Tales from Kumasi

Chale! My people!

My name is Afua! Like my people will say, I came strictly for a life filled with enjoyment as I was born on a Friday. You see, in my culture, people believe that children born on Fridays and Saturdays came to live a life of ease. I totally agree with this and I wear the soft life badge with pride.

My soft life badge led me to fall in love with bikes and engines. The grrrr sound of the engine revving or the smell of rubber grinding against asphalt gets me every time.

I have been considering getting a bike for a while now. On my way from work two days ago, I drove past a yellow motorcycle. I was already admiring the build and its balance from the rear until I saw the battery while attempting to overtake its rider. My hats were blown off.

I must say I am very impressed with the brand. As soon as I got home, I did a bit of research about the company and saw that they recently launched in Ghana and are providing asset financing for individuals who want to own their own vehicles.

It’s amazing to see an African brand challenge the status quo and develop specialized products that suit the continent’s needs.

Now, I picture myself on the back of the M3 riding on the streets of Kumasi circling the twists and turns Kumasi roads are famous for, buzzing away with Shattawale’s Taking Over in my ears. What a sight that would be!

Mama Kojo who sells Kenke at Anloga junction that has always complained about me to my mother will gawk at, if not have a heart attack when I stop for some icecream opposite her shop.

Imagine this,

I revv my engine as my bike winds to a stop. This catches her attention. I then make a big deal of taking off my yellow helmet; taking extra time to shake my bantu knots-styled head from side to side as they do in the movies. I throw a glance at Mama Kojo, give her a sly wink as I dash to get some ice cream. The look on her face will be priceless.

Aah! I digress.

Asante sana, MAX! We are glad to have you!
