My name is Aliu. I am 24 years old. I come from Kafanchan, Katsina. My village is very far from where I am currently. I ran away from my village in 2018 after bandits killed my father, and started terrorising the community.
Here’s my story;
I was told there is money in Ibadan and before long I would get a job to sustain myself. Luckily for me, on getting to Ibadan, I met Quadri, one of my old friends who is also from my village. He allowed me to use his wheelbarrow once a week to work. He also introduced me to one of his friends so I was able to work two times a week. On other days, I assist people in motor parks to carry goods. Every three months, I will send all the money I have back home to my mother and two sisters. I have not gone home since I came to Ibadan.
Last week, Quadri came home to the small shed where we sleep with a yellow paper. The paper had a big okada on it. I asked him what it was about. He didn’t respond. He only started singing.
The next morning Quadri woke up and said he has found a way for us to make money. He brought out the yellow paper and said that very soon, he was going to get the okada on the paper. I asked him if he had money to buy one and if he knew how to ride an okada.
He responded, “I go get am free, I go dey pay small small. Them go teach me how to ride the okada, I go soon be big man”.
